Aihole is known for the early temple-building experiments of the Chalukyas. The monuments offer different ways of shaping a shrine, a hall or a carved entrance. The Durga Temple is a natural starting point, but don’t let one familiar photograph define the whole visit. Take a moment to compare the forms you see as you move from one site to the next.
